DGT 5406 HI-TECH™ (Home Internet and TElephone CHannel) facilitates high-speed Internet access. The system enables data transmission and the use of standard POTS telephone services at the same time, on the basis of existing copper wire telephone pair. The unit is equipped with two terminals (interfaces): · POTS interface for connecting the telephone set, fax, or any other standard units · Ethernet 10Base-T interface for connecting a PC computer. The units connected to interfaces do not interfere with each other and can work independently. The creation of two independent transmission channels was possible using the SDSL technique that changes existing telephone lines into high-speed digital subscriber lines. The SDSL line is characterized by multi-rate transmission from 144kbps to 2312kbps and TC PAM line code. The telephone channel uses a single B channel (64kbps) for transmission. The transmission speeds are multiples of the B channel throughput. Some example data rate values are: 192, 320, 448, 704, 1088, 1984 kbps – these are multiples: 3, 5, 7, 11, 31 of the B channel 64kbps. The CO (Central Office) side of the link (digital SDSL line over a copper pair) is also divided into two termination points: · POTS interface – used for connection to the telephone exchange · Ethernet 10BaseT interface – used for connecting to the data transmission network (high-speed Internet access).
